SUMMER CAMP

Camp Washington is the picturesque center for outdoor ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. This 300-acre woodland retreat, in the heart of Litchfield County, has been an idyllic spot for children & families for almost 100 years. Here, campers can take a break from their summer routine, make new friends, deepen their faith, enjoy the beauty of the area, have fun, learn new skills and return
home with memories that will last a lifetime!

Camp Washington is small enough that campers form lasting friendships not only within their cabin groups, but with the camp community as a whole. The maximum total camp size is 96 campers with living groups not larger than 12 per cabin.

At Camp Washington you will find:
• A caring community centered on Christian
values and beliefs

• A strong commitment to helping each camper
grow in faith

• A professional well-trained staff focused on
the needs of campers

• An active, fun & challenging program with
something for everyone

• A healthy & safe camp environment

The Purpose of the summer camp program at Camp Washington is to provide a place where children of all ages can grow spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically. We strive to help campers come to know God's love through their experiences in this outdoor environment, the friendships they make here, and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Camp Washington is open to all people regardless of age, gender, lifestyle, national origin, physical abilities, race or religious creed.

The Worship life of Camp Washington is a very important element of our community. Based in the Episcopal tradition, closing day Eucharist and daily evening worship are the primary worship opportunities. We encourage children and staff to participate fully in worship and we structure our worship in such a way as to respect the various traditions from which our campers come. All campers are expected to join the community at worship.

All campers participate in one activity block of Christian Exploration each day. Our Christian Exploration program is presented in an exciting and engaging manner using ageappropriate arts-n-crafts, drama, stories, songs, games, outdoor activities and group discussion
to help campers learn & experience God.

Camping Skills (ages 9-12)

This is a great opportunity for kids who love the outdoors!  Campers spend the entire week sleeping in tents, assisting staff in meal preparation and learning basic camping skills, in addition to participating in some traditional camp activities.  Campers will also take a day trip to a local state park.

Pee Wee & Parent (child ages 5-9 and 1 adult)
This is a great way to introduce your child to camp with the added security of family in attendance! An opportunity for families to come together for a fun, three-day, theme-based program with lots of traditional camp activities as well as special events.

Teen Girls (ages 13-17)
Looking for that last blast of summer fun before school starts? Then Teen Girls is for you! A mix of traditional camp activities and special events such as “Spa-day”, a coffeehouse, a trip to Mt. Tom State Park, “Carnival Day” and special guests throughout the week provide an opportunity for girls to enjoy traditions, challenges and fellowship in a session designed especially for them!

Arts Camp (ages 9-12)
Arts Camp provides an opportunity for campers to concentrate their activities for the week in one specialized area:
• Clowning
• Dance
• Painting & Drawing
• Creative Writing
Campers will spend 2 -3 hours a day in their specialty area while the rest of the day is filled with traditional camp activities. The session will conclude with performances & exhibitions giving campers an opportunity to show off their talent & hard work!

Outreach Leadership Camp (ages 13-16)
Designed for youth who want a community-based outreach experience as well as the fun & fellowship of traditional camp activities. Campers travel by bus daily to undertake community-based projects around Connecticut. Previous year’s projects have included a therapeutic horseback riding program, a soup/community kitchen, an animal rescue shelter and the State run Southbury Training School. A certificate of service, accepted by many school systems for community services hours, is presented to each camper.

Mini Camp (ages 5-9)
Mini-camp is designed to give younger campers a shortened experience of what Camp Washington is all about. We offer a sampling of our traditional programs in an age appropriate manner so mini-campers can experience success and have fun in a safe environment. The shorter 3-day session helps campers ease into being away from home.

Theater Week (ages 13-17)
Think it’s impossible to do a full length Broadway musical in one week? Not at Camp Washington with everybody pitching in! Whether constructing the set, developing a lighting design, acting, singing, dancing or sewing a costume, campers share in a community of Christian fellowship working toward the final production. Theater Week is open to all regardless of experience or ability. Performing parts in the show are assigned following auditions.   This year's show is "Fiddler on the Roof."

American Camp Association
We take great pride in the fact that Camp Washington is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). The ACA is the governing body of summer camps in America and has set forth the industry standards by which all accredited camps are critiqued. The ACA standards go above and beyond what the State of Connecticut requires of a licensed summer camp.
